Like a lot of magicians and school assembly performers, I got bit by the ‘magic bug’ when I was very young. I received a magic set as a gift and from that moment on, I was hooked! But unlike a lot of other kids, I never lost interest.
Eventually, I decided this was going to be my full-time job. And 24 years ago, that’s what I did. Every year I average about 350 shows a year. It’s a lot of hard work performing that much, but when you love what you do as much as I do, every workday is fun!
Many magicians get into corporate banquets because of money or prestige. They like performing for adults more than kids. Me? I’ve always been a kid show guy. Whether it’s birthday parties, library shows, or school assemblies, I’ve never wanted to do anything else. I love being a school assembly performer!
I’m a pretty laid-back, low-key guy. Most people who know me know I don’t like to toot my own horn, even as a busy school assembly performer. But I’m proud to say I’ve had some pretty amazing career highlights. Some of them include:
At the end of the day, though, I’m most passionate about educating kids.
For the last 14 years, I have performed over 100 shows each year for the public library systems in Georgia. Every year I create a brand-new show based on the Summer Reading Program theme. Because I offer a brand-new show every year, librarians bring me back again and again, knowing my programs will fill their libraries with eager young readers.
One of my long-term goals is to leave the world of magic in a better place. I travel the world lecturing at magician conferences and teaching other entertainers some of the techniques and routines I’ve created in my career. I also write monthly columns in children’s entertainers’ publications, including The Funny Paper and KIDabra Journal. And I recently served as the President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians for an entire year.
My biggest accomplishment has nothing to do with magic. I’m proud to say I’m a father to three beautiful girls. As a parent, I understand the importance of education. My girls serve as a big motivation to deliver educational messages to kids in schools across the country.
